End of Semester Dinner

The annual Peterborough End of Term / Post Grading semi-formal dinner and celebration will be held the night of the Ontario senior grading. Members from all Jitsu Canada clubs and their guests are welcome to attend.

The dinner will be held at Hot Belly Mama's - drinks at 8pm, dinner at 8.30pm. Olde Stone beer on tap! Cost for dinner is $30 per person; this includes appetizer, entree, dessert, taxes and gratuity. Beverages extra! Under 19 of age welcome but no alcohol.

Andy Dobie

Andy began his jiu jitsu training at Plymouth Polytechnic (now Plymouth University) in Plymouth, England, in 1985 under the instruction of Simon Leehane Sensei. In 1988 he became the club instructor of the University of Plymouth Samurai Jiu Jitsu Club, a position he held until 1992.

In August 1993 he moved to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and established Jitsu Canada's first club at Trent University. In September 1998 Andy decided the time was right for an additional club in Peterborough, and the Peterborough YMCA agreed to host the club.

In addition to jiu jitsu, Andy also studied judo for two years before attending university.

Chris Brooks

Chris began his jiu jitsu training at Trent University in Peterborough in September 1995 under Andy Dobie Sensei. In September 1999 he moved to Kingston and established a jiu jitsu club at Queen's University. Chris has been the instructor of the Queen's Jiu Jitsu Club ever since. Chris holds current St John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR certificates. He has also completed National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 1. In addition to jiu jitsu, Chris has also studied taekwondo, karate, hapkido, judo and Tai Chi Chuan. He is known throughout Jitsu Canada as Thumper.

Kieran Parsons

Kieran is the instructor of the Gladstone Jiu Jitsu club. He started training at Bristol University, England in 1990. In 1997 Kieran moved to Ottawa and continued training at the YMCA Jiu Jitsu dojo. In 2000 he became the instructor of the Carleton University club, where he stayed until December 2002.

After a couple of years travelling he has decided that the time is right to open another club in Ottawa.

Kieran has also been training in Taekwon-Do for the last year or so at Ly's Taekwon-Do dojang.

Kieran holds current St John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" certificates. He has also completed National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 1.

Jonathan Jamnik

Jonathan Jamnik began his training in January of 2000 at Carleton University under Sensei John Molyneux Nidan. In the summer of 2000, and subsequently during the next two summers, he trained at the Ottawa Metro YMCA under Sensei Colin Welburn Shodan. In September of 2000 he returned to Carleton University and began training with Sensei Kieran Parsons Shodan.

In December of 2002 he had the privilege of instructing at the Ottawa Metro YMCA club and taught there until August 2005.

In the summer of 2004, while living in Plymouth, England, he trained at the University of Plymouth Samurai Jiu Jitsu Club under Sensei Mark Browne Shodan. During that time he also trained at the China Fleet Club in Cornwall under Sensei Greg Regan Sandan, founder of the Ryu Ju Jutsu Association.

On September 25th 2004, during the last Dan grading held by the late Brian Graham Shihan, founder of Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu, he was one of five to be awarded his black belt.

In September 2005 he assumed the position of instructor at the Carleton University club, where he continues to teach to this day.

Brent Stamplicoski

Brent started his training at Carleton University in January 2001 under Sensei Kieran Parsons. Since then, he has also trained at the Ottawa Metro YMCA, and has trained under Sensei Colin Welburn, Sensei John Molyneux, Sensei Amelia Croll, and Sensei Jon Jamnik. He was the Assistant Instructor at the YMCA club from January 2003 to August 2005.

In September 2005, Brent returned to Carleton Universty as Assistant Instructor to Sensei Jon Jamnik, and regularly trains at the Gladstone Club.

Brent holds current St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR Level "A" certificates, and currently holds the rank of Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) - photo to be updated!

Kenn Gibb

Kenn Gibb (Shodan)

Kenn began his jiu jitsu training at the Peterborough YMCA Jiu Jitsu Club in March 2000 under the instruction of Andy Dobie Sensei.

In 2003 he became the club instructor of the Trent University Jiu Jitsu Club, a position he still holds as well as being a regular visiting instructor at the YMCA club.

Ben de Witt

Ben began his Jiu Jitsu training in January 2001 at the Queen's University Jiu Jitsu Club under the instruction of Chris Brooks Sensei. In September 2004, Ben moved to Calgary and founded the University of Calgary Jiu Jitsu Club.

In addition to Jiu Jitsu, Ben has also trained in Kodokan Judo, under the instruction of Charles Maingon Sensei and Ron Lloyd Sensei.

Chris Whynot

Chris started his training at Carleton University in September 2001 under Kieran Parsons Sensei. Since then, he has also trained at the Ottawa Metro YMCA, and Gladstone clubs under the instruction of Jonathan Jamnik Sensei, Brent Stamplicoski Sensei and Amelia Croll Sensei. In April 2007, Chris assumed the role of Assistant Instructor to Parsons Sensei at the Ottawa Gladstone club, and in November 2007 was promoted to club instructor.

Chris is certified in St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR Level "A", and currently holds the rank of Shodan Ho (Provisional Instructor).

Mark Yourkevich

Mark began Jiu Jitsu in the summer of 2001 while studying at Trent University. He began fastidiously training at both the YMCA and Trent University Clubs in Peterborough under Sensei Dobie initially, and later also trained under Sensei Gibb. In the summer of 2003, Mark moved to Ottawa to attend Carleton University. While studying in Ottawa, he trained under Sensei Amelia Croll (Carleton) and Sensei Jon Jamnik (Ottawa YMCA). In the fall of 2004 he relocated to Kingston where he prepared for his 1st kyu grading under the instruction of Thumper Sensei. In the Spring of 2005, he founded the Kingston YMCA Jiu Jitsu Club where he continues to teach. Mark has also had the good fortune to have been able to visit several clubs across the UK including Bristol University, Bristol Town, Edinburgh Uni, and Kings College in London. Mark is certified in St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR Level "A", and currently holds the rank of Shodan.

Stu Cooke

Stu began his Jiu Jitsu career at the Queen's University Club in Kingston and trained there for several years under Chris Brooks Sensei. Upon graduation in 2005, he moved to England and began training under Nigel Price Sensei and Nicola Price Sensei at the King's College Club in London. Stu returned to Canada in 2006 and resumed training in Kingston under Chris Brooks Sensei and Mark Yourkevich Sensei. Stu opened his own club in Kingston at St. Lawrence College, where he has been teaching since 2008.

Yoshie Martinez

Yoshie is the instructor of the children's classes at the Gladstone club. She started training at Carleton University in September 2001. She has since trained at the YMCA Jiu Jitsu dojo and the Gladstone Jiu Jitsu club.

She became the Assistant Instructor for the children’s classes in June 2005, and became the Instructor in August 2005.

Yoshie holds current St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Child and Infant and CPR Level "A" certificates.
